Brief History:
The Four Corner Hustlers originated on Chicago’s Westside in the early 1970’s.  The organization was founded by King Walter Wheat and Freddy “Malik” Gauge.  Soon after the organization was founded, they became allied with the Vice Lords street gang, and began adopting the Vice Lords symbols and colors.  The group was mostly in the Austin neighborhoods in the late 1970’s. But a small group of 4CH’s began to operate in the Garfield Park and the Austin neighborhoods.  This group was led by Monroe “Money” Banks and adopted the Black Diamond as a symbolic reference to their gang.  In the late 1980’s Freddy Gauge died while incarcerated.  Walter Wheat solely took over the organization.  In the early 1990’s Monroe Banks proclaimed leadership over the organization.  His proclaim of leadership was disputed by the older high-ranking members, but because of tension and disagreements Walter Wheat retired from the organizations leadership.  Monroe Banks was later killed in a drug related murder in 1992.

The 4CH’s began to expand their operations throughout the 1990’s.  There were a group of younger Four Corner Hustlers that began distancing themselves from the Vice Lords.  Among the “Young Turks” was Angelo Roberts.  Angelo was given a leader position in the organization by Walter Wheat.  There continued to be many disputes over leadership because of Angelo’s young age.  Due to these problems, Walter Wheat reassumed his position in the organization.  Walter Wheat was killed in 1993.  It was said that Angelo Roberts was the principle suspect in the hit on Walter.  In the mid-1990’s Angelo Roberts was arrested on drug and weapon charges.  After release Angelo attempted to blow up the Area 3 Police station with high power weapons and he eventually made America’s Most Wanted.  He was later killed in 1995.  After Angelo’s death Ray Longstreet became leader of the entire Four Corner Hustler branch.

The 4CH’s pride themselves on making money and within the past 10 years or so have grown tremendously.  The Four Corner Hustlers have expanded throughout the Southside and the far South suburbs.  Even though the 4CH’s are an offshoot of the Vice Lords, they still consider themselves a separate entity on the street.  However, while incarcerated all of the Four Corner Hustlers align themselves with the Vice Lords.
