India Thought 3-15-01 Futile effort #--to explain India in words. India, is not just a country with political, economic, and social values very different from the United States, it is a land of harmony and chaos. Moments of pure mental and (often) actual haze, suddenly clear to expose life with total clarity and astonishing perceptions. There is not a day in the life of India. Every moment is different and special in its own way. From the sun setting over the Ganges, to watching dogs and monkeys fight for turf in the streets, life never gets boring. If you are debating on whether or not to go to India for J-term, you need to go. If the means are there and even a small amount of interest, you are more than well prepared. India is a place that if not visited the soul is left empty and neglected. Leaning out the door of an Indian train (just like in the movies) watching the sun set over the Punjab was I'm sure better than simply getting drunk and freezing my ass off in Kenosha.

Here Peter, I and Pat (l-r) are enjoying the sun up on the roof of our place in Haridwar. When the sun shines in a north Indian January, the roof is the place to be! |
