The Science and Religion Colloquium at Carthage is a consortium of faith communities and academic institutions in southeastern Wisconsin that are committed to providing a source for educational information and a forum for civil discourse on some of the most critical issues facing our society today. SRCC will focus on three major issues related to the science and religion dialogue: Origins: cosmology, evolution, and creation stories; Endings: scenarios of destruction and apocalyptic literature; and Bioethics: the interface of scientific research with religious based moral decision making. A fundamental premise of the SRCC will be that serious engagement with the complex issues at hand requires a humility of knowledge and belief that is often difficult to achieve. We plan to investigate the degree to which it is possible to engage in honest dialogue with people who hold positions different than your own, unless you are willing to admit to the possibility that there are limitations on the extent and veracity of your own knowledge or belief. We believe that approaching the dialogue between science and religion with a humility of knowledge and belief is an essential part of responding to the challenges of the 21st century.
Support for the SRCC is provided by the Metanexus Institute.
