J-Term in Greece and Turkey – 2007

 

 

The Departments of Religion and Classics are now receiving applications for the J-Term 2007 study tour to Northern Greece.

 

The J-Term class will be RELI 271 East Meets West: Cultural Contact and Contrasts in Northern Greece and Turkey, and can be used to fulfill either the second course in Religion requirement, or the Humanities Distribution in Classics. The instructor will be Dan Schowalter.

 

The Tour will focus on northern Greece (Macedonia and Thrace) and the western coast of Turkey as well as Istanbul (See tentative itinerary on the other side. This will be the perfect time to visit Greece since you will be able to enjoy the improvements made for the Olympics, but the crowds attending the games will be gone.

 

The tentative schedule for the tour includes class and research on campus January 3-11 and departure for Greece on Saturday, January 13. The return will be on February 1. The tentative cost for the tour is $3200 and includes Airfare, Group travel in Greece, visa expenses, two meals per day, hotels.

 

In addition to participation in all course activities, requirements for the course include a learning journal, an on-site presentation, and a paper.

 

Interviews for applicants will be conducted April 10-26.  In order to schedule an interview, you must complete an application form, and return it to Sue Grover in LH 328 along with a $200.00 deposit check (payable to Carthage College). The forms are available on the door of LH 218, or by email from Dan Schowalter.

 

Sign-up sheets with interview times will be available once you have submitted your application form. The deposit is refundable up until May 5th, and will be returned if you are not selected for the study tour.
