How do I create my account?
Your account will be created for you automatically the first time you log in. Use your novell username and password in a standard FTP-based program (see below for more detailed instructions). The name of the server is personal.carthage.edu and the path to your files on personal will be set for you automatically.
How do I connect to my account once it has been created?
You can manage your web space in one of two ways:
- The first is through FTP, which many popular web editing clients (such as Macromedia Dreamweaver) support. For FTP, enter the servername as personal.carthage.edu, and your Novell login and password as login information. If it mentions a root directory, just leave it blank - it's not needed.
- Alternatively, a web is also automatically created for you for use with Microsoft FrontPage. To connect via FrontPage, open FrontPage and go to file -> Open Web. From there, in "Web name:", put http://personal.carthage.edu/username , where username is your Novell username.
Please note that no matter how you connect to your account, your username should always be all lowercase letters, otherwise you will be denied access.
What restrictions are imposed on my account?
You CANNOT include material that may violate any local, state, or federal laws, including any applicable export laws and regulations.
Accounts on personal.carthage.edu are limited to a maximum of 75 megabytes.
Script execution has also been disabled. If you would like to have access to advanced features for your web pages, please contact the webmaster at webmaster@carthage.edu. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
